Abstract

This study investigates the effect of different image enhancement techniques on the unwrapped phase plots of a given interferometric fringe pattern. Among the MATLAB filtering techniques used are histogram equalization (HISTEQ) and adaptive noise-reduction methods such as WIENER2, and Unsharp. Results show that the histogram equalization technique is the most effective in producing the lowest noise-level and minimal discontinuities in the soda can interferometric image, with the lowest computed mean standard deviation of 1.52 displacement units.
