Abstract

Effects of sintering time and temperature on the superconductivity and microstructure of bulk MgB2 were investigated. AC magnetic susceptibility measurements show that TC increases with sintering time. The magnitude of change in TC is larger when varying the sintering time as opposed to varying the sintering temperature. SEM showed that the increasing size of MgB2 grains resulted from partial melting attained through sintering at a longer period of time, and that there is no significant change on the grain sizes of MgB2 with increasing sintering temperature.
