Abstract

This paper presents the initial result of the gender differences study of learning introductory physics in the University of the Philippines Diliman. The Force Concept Inventory (FCI) test is administered before and after instruction on Newtonian mechanics. From the pretest scores, the males averaged 9% higher than females. The posttest is compared with the pretest scores using Hake's gain formula. Results show that males obtained 38% gain while females acquired a gain of 29%.
