A new liquid crystal mixture based on E48 and castor oil
Abstract
A new liquid crystal (LC) composite mixture was formulated based on E48 and castor oil. The mixture was prepared for various concentrations with LC as dominant component and was characterized thermooptically using Olympus optical polarizing microscope with Mettler Toledo hot stage. Chains of oil droplet were observed with other uncontrolled topological defects dispersed over the nematic matrix. The differential scanning calorimetry profdes of the samples displayed a decrease in nematic to isotropic transition temperature with the decrease of LC present in the mixture.
