Synthesis of bulk superconducting magnesium diboride
Abstract
Bulk polycrystalline superconducting samples of magnesium diboride, MgB2 have been successfully prepared via a one-step-sintering program at 750°C in a pure Ar atmosphere. Both electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements confirm the superconductivity of the material at 39K with a transition width of 5K. X-ray diffractometry confirmed the polycrystalline nature of the prepared samples while scanning electron microscopy showed that the surface morphology of the samples were granular in nature.
