Study on the lifetime of muon decay
Abstract
This study reviews the experimental status of muon decay, a purely leptonic process, by measuring and analyzing the lifetime of cosmic-ray muons decaying in an aluminum absorber.
The abundance of muons at sea level resulting from the decay of pions in the atmosphere facilitates the study of the lifetime of muon decay. The Fermi weak-coupling constant, GF, is extracted from the measurements of muon lifetime. This constant plays a key role in the precision test of the Standard Model of electroweak interactions.
