Abstract

We analytically solve for the partition function of a system described by the Lu-Marlow potential. From the partition function we obtain the equation of state and other thermodynamic properties. The isotherms when plotted contain a loop characteristic of the isotherms from var der Waals equation of state. A region where probable liquid-vapor phase change is identified. This is supported by a maximum of the specific heat at constant pressure at the critical point.
