Abstract

Formulation of cholesteryl esters from various raw materials are currently being explored for a possible substitute of the commercially available cholesteric liquid crystals. Recent works have succeeded in synthesizing local cholesteric liquid crystals from coconut oil. This study aims to determine the properties of the nematic E7 with an admixture of the coco-based cholesteryl ester as the chiral dopant in the liquid crystal chiral-nematic mixture and the optical properties as dispersed material in polymer PMMA.
