Abstract

Using an alternative equation for momentum transport suggested in [Phys. Lett. A 191, 422 (1994)], we simulate a microscopic version of the Coutte flow, studying the time dependent radial velocity field for a fluid enclosed between two coaxial cylinders with one of the cylinders rotating with constant angular velocity. We use an implicit numerical simulation method using both the Navier-Stokes equation and a suggested alternative to the Navier-Stokes equation. We find at least two frequencies not seen in the Navier-Stokes equation for the alternative transport equation that considers the molecular interaction.
