Abstract

Two types of power supply for the CW carbon dioxide Laser are studied: a simple neon sign transformer and a prototype switching power supply. Their viability is investigated by first obtaining the volt-amp (V-I) characteristics of both the supply and the laser tube, the breakdown/ignition voltage, and the optimum operating current for the laser tube. Determination of these parameters gives us an insight Into the important factors affecting stability of the operating point of the laser.
