An optical scanner for the IBM PC
Abstract
This project seeks to demonstrate the basic principles and techniques of Remote Sensing and Digital Image Processing by capturing photographic information for processing by a microcomputer. We propose to do this by building an optical scanner, composed of a light-detecting device mounted on an X-Y plotter driven by an IBM-compatible microcomputer. With this set-up, we are able to digitize images and create routines to demonstrate the basic techniques in image processing, specifically methods involving transformations in the spatial-domain.
