Preface
Abstract
Filipino physicists annually convene to deliver their research output in experimental and theoretical physics. Papers in fields and particle theory, instrumentation physics, plasma physics, laser physics, medical and radiation physics, and materials physics are a silent testimony to the varied aspects of physics research in the country.
Against the background of silent and lofty mountains of UP Los Baños, voices of Filipino scientists reverberate like sweet murmurs oscillating in curved spacetime. This annual Congress is indeed the culmination of the glory that crowns each individual researcher after at least one year of almost sleepless nights.
We at the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas jealously guard the tradition that we have set up since its founding in 1979. We will exert an all-out effort to preserve its dignity and integrity while at the same time vigorously pursue its role as a political force in the process of developing our science and technology.
We would finally like to acknowledge the financial help of the National Research Council of the Philippines (now Philippine National Science Society) without whose support the holding of this Congress might not be possible. Gratitude also goes to the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philippines at Los Baños, U.P. Science Research Foundation (which generously lent us funds with no other collateral except myself) and all those members of our Congress Committees who toiled week-long sleepless nights just to ensure the success of this Congress.
