Preface

Abstract

The content of this book constitutes the Proceedings of the Sixth National Physics Congress of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) held at the University of the Philippines College Baguio last May 22-24, 1987. As the reader might immediately notice, the Proceedings is entitled "Progress of Theoretical and Experimental Physics (1987)." I found it appropriate to place that title not only because it has become a standard practice to put a title of Proceedings of Conferences, Workshops, Seminars and the like but most importantly to emphasize the rapid progress of research in theoretical and experimental physics in the Philippines. While the majority of the lecturers are professional physicists, there are some who are physics majors in the graduate and undergraduate divisions who toiled almost the whole year round preparing a paper to read for this Congress. The enthusiasm of people involved in this endeavor is just too contagious and personally it would be too superflous on my part to say how touched I was, after seeing all these people doing overnight works to beat the deadline for submission of paper to the Congress Scientific Committee.
