Abstract

There is intense research on Complex Network Analysis. Major research work has been undertaken in the last two decades from leading researchers such as Newman, Watts, Barbasi and others. The main impetus is the availability of powerful computers that has made it possible to uncover the complexity of social, behavioural, biological, financial and technological systems. Another new challenge is the use of Sentiment Analysis as social media blogging. This media blogging has become a grave challenge to human society. Fake news, manipulations of news and current public issues for political mileage and arousing hatred among multi-cultural societies has become a serious concern. In this paper, an overview of Complex Network Science research. A review of work is done for the last 20 years. Further, an overview of its research among South-East Asia researchers is presented.

Author Biography

    Kuru Ratnavelu obtained his BSc (First Class Honors) in 1982 and his MSc in 1985 at the University of Malaya. He received his PhD in Atomic Physics in 1990 from Flinders University under a Flinders Research Scholarship. He was previously the Deputy Dean of Science, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Development, and Head of the Strategic Planning Unit at the University of Malaya and played a key role in the University’s High Impact Research Program. Professor Ratnavelu is currently the Director of the Institute of Computer Science and Digital Innovations at UCSI. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Institut Fizik Malaysia, and the Persatuan Sains Matematik Malaysia. He was awarded the Malaysian Toray Science Foundation’s Science and Technology Award in 2004, the Young Scientist Award (Strategic Sector) in 1996 by MOSTE, and the Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006 by Flinders University. He is also currently a Council Member of the Association of Asia-Pacific Physical Societies and the Honorary Secretary of the Institut Fizik Malaysia and the Malaysian Mathematical Society. His main research interests are in theoretical atomic collisions processes, complex and social network analysis, and optimal theory. He currently has an h-index of 21 with more than 1200 citations.
