Optical and structural properties of electroless deposited copper oxide on anodized zinc oxide
Abstract
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoflowers were successfully synthesized via anodizing pure Zn foil in oxalic acid as an electrolyte solution. A constant voltage of 40V and a current density of 200mA/cm2 were applied for 20 minutes anodization process. The anodized ZnO was then immersed in diluted phosphoric acid at various etching times of 20, 40, and 60 minutes. Copper oxide (CuO) was deposited electrolessly on the anodized ZnO films. The optical and structural properties of anodized ZnO films and ZnO with CuO nanoflowers were characterized by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The size of ZnO nanostructures was found to increase as etching time increases; hence nanoflowers were formed by the deposition of CuO.
