Abstract

Zinc oxide was synthesized using electrochemical deposition technique. An aqueous solution of sodium sulfate was electrolyzed using zinc metals as electrodes, under a constant power source of 4V. Scanning Electron Microscope showed that the synthesized samples were ZnO microflakes. Smaller microstructures were formed at larger precursor molarities. The photocatalytic properties of the synthesized products were tested using methylene blue under UV light. Approximately 88 % percent of the organic compound was degraded, which suggests the as – synthesized zinc oxide has potential photocatalytic property.
