Abstract

We introduce an entanglement measure for pure states based on purity. The measure is similar to the Renyi entropy but differs in how it is applied to a particular state. We show that it satisfies the usual criteria for an entanglement measure. Although it can only measure entangled pure states, it is not restricted by the number of qubits or the dimensionality of the system. We also show that it could not distinguish certain states and provide solutions in order to circumvent this complication.
