Synthesis of zinc oxide on ceramic substrates via electrochemical deposition
Abstract
This experiment aims to synthesize zinc oxide (ZnO) on ceramic substrate and determine the effect of molarity of precursor solution on the morphology of the sample. ZnO was formed by electrolyzing different molarities of sodium nitrate solution with a zinc anode and silver cathode. ZnO precipitate from the electrochemical process was deposited on a mullite-based ceramic treated with acetone. Samples were characterized using Energy-dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). It was concluded that ZnO microflowers were successfully deposited on ceramic and the 0.200 M sample yielded the best results, without any surface chemical modification.
