Abstract

Uniform and well-faceted ZnO micro rods are successfully prepared by the aqueous chemical growth method. The micro rods only have a UV near band-edge emission with no observable visible defect-related emission. The luminescence lifetime is also just 80 ps, which is very fast compared to 370 ps and 2.1 ns of a bulk ZnO single crystal. Having sharp and picoseconds UV emission, these ZnO micro rods are potential candidates for future scintillator and laser diode applications.
