Abstract

Previous study has reported a method based on a statistical algorithm to detect the eye of a single undesirable optical vortex, the location of which may be used to design a numerical correction filter [Maallo et al., Opt. Lett. 2011]. In this present work, the method is extended to the correction of multiple vortices. Furthermore, the effects of initial angle are investigated in the design of correction filters resulting in the efficient removal of the vortices. The effectiveness of the technique for the removal of two vortices is demonstrated numerically and experimentally.
