Abstract

Bamboo is a wood-like material commonly used in the Philippines in a variety of applications. Because of the similarity of its chemical composition with that wood, bamboo is highly combustible. Plasma treatment of wood has proven to successfully increase its resistance to combustion, due to their similarities the same should be expected of bamboo. Bamboo was treated in a PECVD device with various treatment chemicals and then subjected to FTIR analysis to confirm the deposition of the treatment chemicals onto the substrate. The analysis confirms that the treatment chemicals were successfully deposited onto the bamboo.
