Synthesis of YBa2Cu3O7-δ (Y123) High-Tc superconductors from Y:Ba:Cu = 3:5:8 stoichiometric ratio
Abstract
Superconducting compound exhibiting diamagnetism at 88.9 K was synthesized using the stoichiometric ratio Y:Ba:Cu = 3:5:8 via standard solid state reaction. Superconducting transition was observed as early as after the first heat treatment. Transition temperature Tc increased to 89.6 K and 90.2 K after the second sintering and annealing in the absence of flowing oxygen, respectively. XRD powder spectra reveals correspondence of reflecting peaks to YBa2Cu3O7 (Y123). Samples' granular nature is surveyed from SEM micrographs and ac magnetic susceptibility measurements. This strategic preparation offers huge economic advantages in thin film applications requiring good and stable stoichiometry from the bulk material.
