Abstract

Second-harmonic generation microscopy was demonstrated by the excitation of β-barium borate using a Ti:sapphire 100 fs pulsed laser centered at 800 nm. Phase-matching conditions for Type I and II SHG were also shown. Raster scan of the sample shows a drop in the SHG signal at 900 - 1900 um, which is the position of the physical defect of the crystal. A more intense generation of second harmonic light was observed from the type I phase matching condition relative to type II.
