Enhanced terahertz emission of semi – insulating gallium arsenide with metal grating structures
Abstract
Enhanced terahertz emission of semi-insulating gallium arsenide with metal grating structures is reported. Metal deposition was done via resistive evaporation of 150 nm-thick nickel/gold line array with sub-wavelength features. Terahertz emission of the samples was measured using standard terahertz-time domain spectroscopy in the transmission excitation geometry. The enhancement was reported to be of one order of magnitude, relative to the bare substrate, which is currently attributed to surface plasmon polariton effects.
